Ryan, Genevieve Irene – January 09, 2022

Genevieve Irene (Rossiter) Ryan, affectionately known as Toddy passed away peacefully with her four children by her side on January 9, 2022 aged 85 years.

Toddy was a loving wife to Aquinas (who passed away March 3, 2017) a wonderful mother to Stephen, Andy (Sherry Pauley), Maura (Craig Pardy) and Maribeth (John Walsh) and ‘Grammy’ to Milo, Marshall, Sawyer and Kathleen Ryan; Mackenzie and Callum Pardy; Owen and Maura Walsh. She will also be fondly remembered by her brother-in-law Wilfred Driscoll and by so many beloved nieces and nephews.

Pre-deceased by her parents, Ed and Irene (MacAdam) Rossiter, sisters Mary, Helena (Stuart MacEwen), brothers Jack (Peggy O’Hanley) and Father Joe, O.M.I. There is comfort in imagining them united once again.

Toddy left Morell at a young age to work in Hamilton, Ontario and returned home to Prince Edward Island where she worked at the Charlottetown Clinic and later at the Bank of Nova Scotia in Morell. It was her relationships with the people she worked with, that shaped her memories of those days. Relationships were so important to her – and she cultivated them with laughter, her sense of fun and generosity. Her treasured circles were her Rossiter/MacAdam family, those in the Ryan/O’Donnell clan and her friends (from childhood, to those in ‘the Bay’ and those from ‘the pool’). She showed her love by creating a home where everyone felt welcome (and fed), by delivering care packages (often to Kinross, Ottawa and the Valley – she knew each grandchild’s favourite recipe) and by simply putting others first. In recent years when travel became a challenge, mom stayed connected to those she loved through technology (she received her first IPad at 73 – she was an ‘early adopter’). From liking pictures and posts of friends, nieces and nephews (and grand ones too) to discovering new recipes (for Andy to make), to winning in online scrabble, she especially loved her FaceTimes with her grandchildren.

The family is thankful for the kindness and exceptional care mom received from the Souris/Montague Home Care team led by palliative care coordinator Joanne Chisholm R.N. Covid-19 led to some quiet days for mom and the visits from her personal care workers offered smiles, comfort and many laughs. We also want to acknowledge the staff at the Souris Hospital who cared for mom in her final hours.

Resting at the North Shore Funeral Home, a private family visitation will take place on Friday, January 14,  2022.  A celebration of her life will take place this summer when all those who loved her can gather and share a story, a biscuit and a cup of tea.  Memorial donations requested to be made to the Right to Life or to the Eastern County Health Foundation – Souris Home Care either directly, or by e-transfer to northshorefuneralhome@gmail.com.   On-line condolences may be made to www.northshorefuneralhome.ca
